4Fibre at Connected Britain 2025: Tackling the MDU Challenge
The UK's connectivity landscape is evolving rapidly, but one challenge continues to stump even the most experienced network builders: Multi-Dwelling Units (MDUs). From Victorian conversions with labyrinthine layouts to modern apartment blocks with restrictive access policies, connecting residential buildings remains one of the industry's most complex puzzles.
On September 24th & 25th 2025, 4Fibre will be joining forces with Teleste at Connected Britain 2025, the UK's premier digital economy event, to showcase the technology that's changing how we approach these challenging builds.
Partnership in Problem-Solving
Hosted at London's ExCeL, Connected Britain brings together UK connectivity's forward-thinking voices. This year's event sees 4Fibre joining Teleste on Stand N47, where the two companies will be sharing insights and showcasing equipment developed to tackle the challenges of connecting MDUs
The collaboration between 4Fibre and Teleste has grown out of a shared focus on the practical realities of fibre rollouts in complex housing environments. Drawing on 4Fibre’s experience of UK housing stock and wayleave processes and Teleste’s background in network infrastructure, the partnership has produced a range of solutions tailored to the obstacles that can slow or stall MDU deployments.
Rather than an abstract technology showcase, the stand will feature real-world examples of how these approaches can help unlock full fibre for harder-to-reach properties—reflecting an ongoing effort to make urban broadband more accessible and achievable at scale.
Live Demonstrations and Real Solutions
Visitors to Stand N47 will have the opportunity to see these innovations in action. The stand will feature a demonstration of a distribution point (DP) and underground point of connection (UPOC) equipment that's been specifically engineered to tackle access limitations common in UK residential buildings and estates.
But this isn't just about showing off kit—it's about demonstrating how thoughtful engineering can turn seemingly impossible deployment scenarios into routine installations. Whether it's navigating tight spaces, minimising disruption to residents, or working within strict building regulations, these solutions address real-world challenges that network builders face every day.
Addressing the MDU Conundrum Head-On...
The highlight of 4Fibre's Connected Britain presence will be a keynote presentation by 4Fibre Wayleave Manager, Marie Bush, and Teleste's Dean Checkley (CEO) and Carl Tomkins (Business Development Director), who'll be taking the stage in Connected Society Theatre 7 at 3PM on Tuesday, 24th September. The presentation, "Addressing the MDU Conundrum," promises to tackle one of the industry's most persistent challenges.
Beyond the Technology
What makes 4Fibre's approach particularly interesting is their recognition that MDU challenges aren't purely technical. Success in this space requires understanding everything from Victorian-era construction methods to modern leasehold law, from residents' concerns about disruption to property managers' insurance requirements.
The partnership with Teleste reflects this holistic approach—it's not enough to have great technology if it can't be practically deployed in the real world. By working together to develop bespoke solutions, both companies are acknowledging that one-size-fits-all approaches simply don't work when you're dealing with the gloriously varied and often eccentric world of UK housing.
Making Connections
For anyone grappling with similar challenges—whether you're a network operator, property developer, or local authority—Connected Britain offers an ideal opportunity to explore these solutions firsthand. The 4Fibre team will be on hand throughout both days to discuss specific deployment challenges and share insights from their extensive experience in the field.
If you'd like to arrange a meeting before the event, 4Fibre welcomes conversations at info@4fibre.co.uk. Sometimes the best solutions emerge from sharing war stories and comparing notes on what works—and what definitely doesn't—in the complex world of UK connectivity.
As the industry continues to push towards universal full-fibre coverage, events like Connected Britain serve as crucial forums for sharing knowledge, testing new approaches, and building the partnerships that will ultimately deliver better connectivity for everyone. The MDU challenge may be complex, but with innovative thinking and collaborative approaches like those on display at Stand N47, it's far from insurmountable.
Connected Britain 2025 takes place 24-25 September at ExCeL London. Free tickets are available for qualifying professionals across various sectors. Visit Stand N47 to see 4Fibre and Teleste's MDU solutions in action.
