AV Technology at The Conran Building
Modern Workplace AV at The Conran Building
AV Technology for Mastercard at The Conran Building
The Conran Building at 22 Shad Thames is not a standard office environment. Sitting beside Tower Bridge, its design heritage shapes everything about it: riverside views, carefully restored interiors, and a workspace where technology needs to purr in the background. Working in conjunction with managed workspace provider, Kitt, SCCI Alphatrack delivered AV technology for Mastercard, helping create a practical, polished and easy-to-use setting for meetings, collaboration and day-to-day working.
The Building
The Conran Building is a Grade II listed landmark in Shad Thames, London, designed by Hopkins Architects, and previously occupied by Sir Terence Conran.
The building has been refurbished and reimagined as a contemporary workplace, sensitively retaining the character that makes it such a distinctive waterside feature. It is a setting where detail matters: the architecture, the finish, the flow of the space and the way people use it all need to work together.
For a global business such as Mastercard, that means the workplace technology has to meet a clear standard. Premium, reliable, intuitive and discreet — supporting meetings and collaboration without becoming a source of friction.
The Challenge
Modern workplace AV is typically judged in the first few seconds of use.
Can people join the call easily? Can they share content without delay? Can the room support both in-person and remote participants? Does the technology feel like part of the workspace, or something added afterwards?
At The Conran Building, the challenge was to implement AV systems that would support Mastercard’s operational needs while respecting the quality and character of the environment created by Kitt.
The brief required a solution that could deliver a professional user experience, integrate neatly into the workspace, and be robust enough for regular business use.
In a managed office environment, there is also a broader requirement: technology needs to be simple for occupiers to use and straightforward for facilities teams to support. A good AV installation should not create an additional layer of complexity. It should blend into the background.
The Approach
SCCI Alphatrack worked in conjunction with, managed office provider, Kitt, to deliver AV technology suited to the space, the client and the way the workplace would be used.
The installation was approached with three priorities:
- Ease of use for Mastercard’s teams and visitors
- A clean, well-integrated finish in keeping with the building
- Reliable performance for meetings, presentations and collaboration
Rather than treating the AV as a standalone technical package, SCCI Alphatrack considered how the systems would sit within the wider workplace. This included the practical realities of cable routes, display positioning, room usability, user experience and ongoing support.
The result was a workplace technology installation designed to feel natural within the space: visible where it needs to be, discreet where it should be, and simple enough for users to get on with the meeting rather than manage the room.
The Relocation
Mastercard’s previous office held a substantial amount of video-conferencing equipment that was only months old: three Logitech Rally Bar meeting rooms, complete with meeting panels, microphones, microphone pods and wall-mounted Tap Scheduler booking screens, alongside eight monitor workstations.
Rather than write off serviceable kit, SCCI Alphatrack decommissioned it at the old site, transported it, and recommissioned it in the new meeting rooms and meeting pod at The Conran Building. The equipment continues to run on the same Logitech platform and Google Calendar booking system the team already knew, so there was no relearning involved — the same tools, in a better space.
The Technology
The AV installation combined new technology with the careful relocation and recommissioning of existing Mastercard equipment.
For the Sprint Room, SCCI Alphatrack specified two 86-inch MAXHUB XBoard V7 all-in-one interactive touch displays, supported by Intel i7 Windows PC modules, USB-C wireless sharing dongles and mobile stands. This created a flexible collaboration environment where teams can present, share content and work interactively without the room being tied to a fixed layout.
The wider meeting-room provision included Samsung 65-inch QB65C commercial displays, installed with flat-screen floor stands suitable for screens up to 86 inches. This gave the meeting spaces a clean, professional display setup while retaining flexibility within the rooms.
A 5th floor sound system was also included, using Sonos Five premium high-fidelity speakers to support audio within the workspace.
As part of the project, SCCI Alphatrack also decommissioned AV equipment from Mastercard’s previous office and recommissioned it within the Conran Building.
The works also covered the decommissioning, relocation and recommissioning of desktop monitor equipment from Mastercard’s old office, including Dell monitors, DisplayLink equipment, display ports, keyboards and accessories.
By combining new AV equipment with the intelligent reuse of existing systems, the installation delivered a practical, sustainable and cost-conscious workplace technology solution. The result is a set of meeting and collaboration spaces designed to be simple to use, visually clean and ready for the demands of modern hybrid working.
It was a pleasure to work with Kitt in the provision of audio visual technology into this fabulous building.
