Working for a fairer society...

Building Stronger Communities Through Local Partnership
Hackney isn’t short of energy, creativity, and community spirit—but it is also one of the most unequal boroughs in London. Behind the buzzing markets and cultural landmarks, many people face poverty, poor health, and limited access to opportunities.
That’s where Hackney Giving comes in.
Hackney Giving is a simple, coordinated way for individuals, businesses and the public sector to support grassroots community projects in Hackney and the City of London.
Hackney Giving
Hackney Giving is a local charity initiative designed to connect people who want to give with the grassroots organisations that make a real difference on the ground. Rather than guessing where donations should go, Hackney Giving uses its local knowledge and networks to fund projects tackling the borough’s biggest challenges—from youth services and food poverty to mental health and community safety.
Local Giving, Lasting Change
Since its 2014 launch, Hackney Giving has channelled more than £2.1 million into community projects, supporting over 100 local organisations. Each grant goes to groups that know Hackney inside out, led by the people who live and work there.
One of Hackney Giving’s strengths is its flexibility. Donations aren’t swallowed up in admin or lost in big national campaigns—they go directly to community-based groups where even modest funding can have a huge impact. For businesses, it’s also a way to give back to the borough in a meaningful, transparent way.
Hackney Giving is coordinated by Hackney CVS (Council for Voluntary Service), the umbrella organisation supporting local charities and voluntary groups. Together, they ensure that funds are distributed fairly and reach the places where they’ll make the biggest difference.
The message is simple: when you give local, you make local change.
