Improving Mobile Connectivity at Harlow Innovation Park

The Development

Harlow Innovation Park is a new destination for business, focused on science, technology, research and innovation. It forms part of the Harlow Enterprise Zone and sits within the UK Innovation Corridor stretching from London to Cambridge.

At the centre of the park is the NEXUS building, a 2,800 sqm multi-tenant office development designed to attract science and technology organisations and support the growth of high-value employment in the region.

The Challenge

Despite its ambition and modern design, mobile coverage within the NEXUS building was poor. This affected day-to-day usability for occupants and raised a more serious concern: unreliable GSM/4G connectivity for emergency lift lines.

Harlow Council, the building owner, asked SCCI Alphatrack to assess the issue and recommend a practical solution – one that could be delivered quickly and without disruption.

The Approach

SCCI Alphatrack attended the site to carry out a survey of the building, with particular focus on the lift lobbies and lift controller locations. Based on the findings, a 4G/5G repeater system was designed to improve indoor signal strength where it was most critical.

The solution included:

  • An external antenna to capture usable mobile signal
  • A rack-mounted amplifier
  • Splitters to distribute signal efficiently
  • Three internal dome antennas positioned to cover key areas

The system was designed to be expandable, allowing additional coverage to be added in future if required.

The Outcome

Installation and testing were completed in a single day by a five-engineer team. Mobile signal levels were restored in the affected areas, including reliable connectivity for emergency lift systems.

The building now has dependable indoor mobile coverage where it matters most, with an infrastructure in place that can be extended as the wider Innovation Park continues to develop.

Harlow Innovation Park is a key development for science, technology, and innovation, and it is essential that the facilities support the needs of the businesses operating within it. With ongoing mobile signal issues, Harlow Council engaged SCCI Alphatrack to provide a solution.

SCCI responded promptly, arranging a site visit and providing a clear and well-considered quotation within a short timeframe. The team demonstrated a strong understanding of the operational challenges within a multi-tenant building and proposed a practical, effective approach.

The works were completed swiftly and efficiently, with installation and testing carried out in a single day and minimal disruption to building users. The improvement in mobile signal was immediate.

We were particularly impressed by the speed at which the solution was both quoted and delivered, as well as the professional manner in which SCCI managed the project from start to finish. Harlow Council is very satisfied with the outcome.
