Bringing safer, smarter access to Harlow Council housing.
The Project
Alphatrack Systems (ASL) was appointed by Harlow Council to deliver a full access control upgrade across a 27-property residential block, modernising the existing door entry and fob systems while improving safety, usability, and compliance with current Building Regulations.
Working in close collaboration with Harlow Council and site stakeholders, ASL managed the full scope of works — from door entry upgrades to structural adaptations — ensuring each element was delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest compliance standards. The result was a modern, user-friendly access system that enhances both security and resident experience.
Scope of Works
- Installation of a new Entrotec/KMS access control system
- New ED5 Entrotec handsets fitted in each of the 27 properties
- New KMS fob system (three fobs per property)
- Two new Multisteel main entrance doors installed
- Two GERDA fire drop key boxes fitted at main entrances
- New steps formed outside both entrance doors to improve accessibility
Builders’ Works
To accommodate the new Multisteel door sets, structural adaptations were required at the property's east entrance. Existing brickwork was carefully removed and the opening widened to approximately 1700mm, before new brickwork was toothed and tied to form a stable, compliant structure for the installation.
Both the east and west entrances were upgraded with new level landings and DDA-compliant handrails. Concrete platforms were formed and finished to Building Regulations standards, providing safe, accessible entry points ahead of the door installations.
Overcoming Challenges
During the installation, existing containment routes presented space constraints where legacy electrical mains had been installed by a previous contractor. SCCI Alphatrack’s engineering team developed a practical solution, modifying the containment layout to pass safely and neatly above the mains infrastructure without compromising safety or appearance.
The Outcome
The project was completed efficiently and well received by residents, who appreciated the long-awaited improvements to security and ease of access.
Delivered on time and to specification, the upgrade provides Harlow Council with a safer, more resilient system designed for long-term reliability and ease of management.
