Snowhills Sheltered Accommodation

The Property

Located in Yaxley, Peterborough, Snowhills is a sheltered accommodation complex managed by The Hyde Group. Primarily designed for individuals aged 55 and over, it offers 41 self-contained, one-bedroom flats spread across two floors. 

Residents benefit from independent living, regular social activities, communal facilities, and access to specialised support services.

The Project

Aico and Alphatrack Systems share a long-standing partnership, working side by side on life safety system design, product selection, and engagement with customers and residents. This close collaboration was central to the Snowhill upgrade, part of Hyde Housing’s wider programme to enhance fire safety across its sheltered and supported living schemes.

Alphatrack Systems worked with Aico to improve domestic fire safety at Snowhill’s 41 dwellings. This was achieved via the installation of advanced, wirelessly networked fire detection systems designed to provide comprehensive coverage and early warning capabilities.

The Delivery

Grade D1, Category LD1 alarm systems were installed throughout the premises. The systems utilised Aico’s state-of-the-art products, including:

• Ei3016 Optical Smoke Alarms
• Ei3014 Heat Alarms
• Ei3000MRF SmartLINK Modules (for wireless interconnection)
• Ei414 RadioLINK+ Fire/CO Alarm Interface
• Ei450 RadioLINK Alarm Controller

All alarms were wirelessly interconnected via the Ei3000MRF SmartLINK Modules, creating a cohesive network for rapid alert transmission. The new alarm system was also integrated with a newly installed telecare system, providing an additional layer of protection and remote monitoring capabilities.

The project was delivered in full compliance with BS 5839-6:2019 (Fire detection and fire alarm systems for domestic premises) and BS 7276 (Code of practice for the operation of fire protection measures).

The Conclusion

The Snowhills fire safety upgrade has delivered meaningful improvements to resident wellbeing and peace of mind. By modernising the alarm systems and linking them with telecare support, residents now benefit from faster alerts, enhanced emergency response, and increased reassurance—both for themselves and their families.

This wasn’t just about installing new equipment; it was about helping people feel safer in their homes. By involving residents from the project's outset and making the process as disruption-free as possible, the new technology has built trust and reassurance across the Snowhills community.
